Denmark’s prime minister blasts unsolicited beauty advice from plastic surgeon on Instagram

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is pushing back against a persistent stream of unwanted beauty critiques after a plastic surgeon took to Instagram to suggest she fix a spot on her nose. The encounter came at a particularly jarring moment for the leader, who had just returned home from a high-stakes trip to Ukraine. After enduring the stress of air raid sirens in a war zone, Frederiksen discovered the message waiting for her, prompting her to publicly call out the absurdity of such intrusions into her personal life.

In a candid post shared with her followers, the forty eight year old politician revealed that this was far from an isolated incident. She noted that she has lost track of how many times people have messaged her over the years to comment on her teeth, the thickness of her hair, or suggesting she undergo Botox treatments. While she chose not to name the specific surgeon involved, she shared a screenshot of his offer alongside her blunt rejection, telling him that she did not need a male doctor’s opinion on her body because she is already happy with herself.

As one of Europe’s most experienced leaders and only the second woman to lead Denmark, Frederiksen has spent much of her tenure navigating complex geopolitical tensions involving NATO and disputes over Greenland. However, she used this platform to pivot toward a more human conversation about aging and societal pressures. She expressed indignation that women approaching fifty are still subjected to these standards and urged people to spend their time discussing meaningful issues rather than focusing on her facial features.

Closing her message with a note of solidarity, the prime minister sent an encouraging thought to everyone who deals with what she called perfect imperfections. By turning a private annoyance into a public statement, Frederiksen signaled that while she remains open to communication from citizens, there is a clear boundary between political discourse and unwelcome commentary on a woman’s physical appearance.
